FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about joining SELS, our programs, transportation, and more.
Enrollment
Is SELS suitable for children who are new to English?
Absolutely! Children with no previous English experience are welcome in our regular after-school program.
Through games and everyday communication, children become familiar with English, while our teachers provide support according to each child's level.
What age can children start attending SELS?
Children as young as around 3–4 years old can join SELS.
For preschool-aged children, they must be toilet-trained and able to follow classroom rules and participate in activities.
We recommend that younger children begin with our 2-hour program.
Once they become comfortable with the classroom environment and spending time in English, we recommend moving to the 4-hour program.
Our teachers support each child's progress at a comfortable pace.
Can my child join in the middle of the school year?
Yes! SELS accepts new students throughout the year.
Children can also begin attending in the middle of a month.
In that case, tuition for the first month is calculated on a weekly prorated basis.
Classes & Attendance
Are children grouped by English level?
In our regular after-school program, children with different English levels spend time together.
We adjust the difficulty of games and activities according to each child's English ability.
For our evening English classes, we plan to offer classes organized by English proficiency.
Is SELS open on Saturdays?
Our regular classes take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
We are not normally open on Saturdays, but we may hold special events or programs on selected Saturdays.
Free Shuttle & Safety
Do you provide transportation home?
Our free shuttle service currently provides pickup from elementary schools to SELS only.
Parents or guardians are responsible for picking up their children from SELS after class.
How will I know when my child arrives at SELS?
SELS uses CheckStation, an attendance and check-in management system.
Parents receive email notifications when their child checks in or out, helping them stay informed about arrival and departure.
Can children who get carsick use the shuttle?
Yes, we do our best to accommodate children who are prone to motion sickness.
We can take measures such as opening windows for ventilation or adjusting seating arrangements to help children feel more comfortable.
If you have any concerns, please contact us beforehand.
Seasonal School & Events
Can non-members join Seasonal School?
Yes! Our Spring, Summer, and Winter Seasonal School programs are also open to children who are not regular SELS students.
Is full-day care available during school holidays?
Depending on the Seasonal School program, children may be able to participate in both the morning and afternoon sessions for a full day.
Schedules and activities vary by program, so please check the details of each Seasonal School or contact us.
Can my child join special events without enrolling at SELS?
Yes! Children who do not attend SELS regularly are welcome to join special events such as our Halloween celebration.
Age requirements and capacity may vary by event.
Please check the information for each event.
Evening English Classes
What ages are the evening English classes for?
We place greater importance on English ability than age.
These classes are generally intended for children from Grade 3 of elementary school through junior high school.
Younger students with sufficient English ability may also be able to join.
High school students are welcome to contact us to discuss their options.
Can beginners join the evening English classes?
Yes, we also plan to offer classes for beginners.
The required English level depends on the class, and we will help families find a suitable option.
What's the difference between the after-school program and evening classes?
Our regular after-school program provides up to four hours in an English-speaking environment, where children naturally develop their language skills through games and a variety of activities.
Evening English classes are focused 60-minute lessons held once a week, with an emphasis on speaking and listening activities suited to each student's level and learning goals.
